UT GIS Day 2019 is an event that gives University Students, Faculty, and Staff the chance to showcase their use of GIS and/or their profession and collaborate with other UT students, faculty, and staff. This is an opportunity to meet new colleagues, make new contacts, learn new techniques in all the fields of GIS, and most importantly to share knowledge and teach people new to the GIS Industry about what GIS is, how it can be used, and what can be accomplished by applying GIS to many various Industries and Research.
Why hold a UT GIS Day event? GIS has been a growing and evolving industry for over 40 years now, and over the last 10 years with the help of new technology such as powerful mobile devices, location services, applications, and other various cloud services GIS has become main stream for many organizations across the world in both government and private sector. These advances have opened the world’s eyes to the power of the spatial visualization of Information and are transforming how people understand the world. What does this mean to the University of Texas? As educators and GIS professionals we should be guiding our students and sharing with our colleagues the new and cutting edge ways that we are using these new tools and technologies and teaching these as they are becoming more readily available to us every year. UT GIS Day 2019 is going to be an event that gives University Students, Faculty, and Staff that chance to showcase their use of GIS and/or their profession and collaborate with other UT students, faculty, and staff. This will be done through presentations, demonstrations, and project posters. Additional event details and scope will be determined in the initial event planning meetings and will also be dependent upon level of participation.
